A Barebones Text Adaptation of the Shakespearean Classic Hamlet
A downloadable game for Windows
After having dabbled in Monogame for a few weeks, this game came about. I decided against allowing the player to make typical text-adventure decisions, because doing that would have exponentially increased the amount of text I had to write, and I wasn't up to the task of figuring out what Shakespeare would have written if Hamlet had forgotten how to get out of the castle during Act 1.
Most of the actual gameplay code consists of fetching keyboard input and properly laying out text on the screen. The real challenge came from writing the script, which I suppose makes sense because it was an English project. It's simple, but it got the job done. I don't think my teacher ever actually played it, because it's a Windows executable, and he told me that he only had a Mac at home. He might have read the script. I got like a 90%.
